26 thousand surgeries performed on patients in the electronic waitlist for endoprosthetics

26 thousand surgeries have been performed on patients who received endoprostheses funded by the state through the electronic waitlist. Of these, over 13 thousand have been conducted since the beginning of 2026.

The electronic waitlist is available for patients requiring hip, knee, shoulder, or elbow joint replacement. Both the surgery and the endoprosthesis are free of charge for patients. The waitlist is formed transparently based on medical indications, level of urgency, and the application date.

Currently, 34.6 thousand Ukrainians are on the waitlist. The largest number of people are awaiting:

  • knee joint endoprosthetics (18,785)
  • total uncemented hip joint endoprosthetics (12,271)
  • cemented hip joint endoprosthetics (2,875)

Endoprosthetics surgeries are provided free of charge to patients in 101 medical facilities across all regions of Ukraine. These facilities receive the endoprostheses purchased by the state.

Patients can receive free endoprosthetics either urgently or as planned procedures.

Urgent surgeries are performed outside the waitlist (regardless of registration on the waitlist) in cases of acute medical indications, particularly in the event of a femoral neck fracture or periprosthetic fracture (the list of indications for emergency surgery can be viewed here).

Elective surgeries are performed according to the electronic waitlist sequence. The list is established and maintained separately at each healthcare facility.

To receive the service, a patient must select a healthcare facility that provides endoprosthetics services and contact it to register on the electronic waitlist.

The electronic waitlist for endoprosthetics was created by the Ministry of Health on the Diia.Engine Platform in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine with support from Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.
