Online marriage is scaling up: what new features will launch by the end of the year
Almost half of all couples in Ukraine now marry via Online Marriage. In the first half of 2026, 40% of couples tied the knot through Diia. Last year, this figure stood at 18% of newlyweds.
The service is scaling up: the government supported the expansion of functionality, taking into account accessibility principles.
By the end of 2026, the following will launch in stages:
- Marriage for widows and widowers: they will be able to enter into a new union fully remotely.
- Video ceremony with accessibility features: people with hearing or speech impairments will be able to register a marriage by involving a sign language interpreter.
- Certificate to any of 48 countries worldwide: newlyweds will be able to order international delivery of the document confirming the marriage.
The updates will be rolled out step by step to ensure stable operation.
The service was developed by the Ministry of Justice jointly with the Ministry of Digital Transformation with support from Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.
