How Diia.Education is changing the approach to learning: the story of a scientist from Irpin

Alongside the launch of online services, the state is investing in ensuring that people can use them — understanding and applying them. The Diia.Education platform has become one of the key tools for learning. It provides access to modern knowledge and professional skills through educational series, simulators, and interactive formats.

The development of the platform is supported by the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.

One example of how this works in practice is the story of Svitlana Zaiets, a scientist and lecturer from Irpin.

She has completed over 200 educational series and has become one of the platform's most active users. Svitlana first learned about the Diia.Education platform in 2019 from news regarding the launch of the digital transformation initiative in Ukraine. A more active acquaintance with the platform began in 2020 — that was when she started taking her first educational series and testing the platform's capabilities in her own professional activities. During the quarantine, learning naturally integrated into her daily rhythm.

The platform interested her because of its format: instead of traditional lectures, it offers short educational series with experts that allow for easy learning at a convenient pace.

The first educational series for Svitlana was the 'Google-based Digital Literacy for Civil Servants' course. As a lecturer and scientist, she chose it deliberately to check her skills in working with digital tools, which were already becoming basic for education and science at that time.

Over time, learning became a daily habit for Svitlana. She completes educational series on public transport, between lectures, or during breaks between tasks. It was the micro-learning format that made it possible to integrate education into a busy schedule.

'Diia.Education has become a format of useful and exciting relaxation for me. When the number of courses crossed the first hundred, I realised: this is no longer just curiosity, but an integral part of my day,' Svitlana shares.

On average, one series takes 1–2 hours, and for efficiency, she often watches materials at 2.0 speed and immediately takes tests after each episode.

Svitlana applies the acquired knowledge in her professional activities every day:

  • organises the educational process through digital tools;
  • uses Google services for research and teaching;
  • implements modern learning formats for students;
  • teaches digital security and academic integrity.

In addition, Svitlana has become a 'digital ambassador' in her circle — helping relatives and colleagues master online services.

Among more than 200 educational series, Svitlana highlights three that had the greatest impact:

Learning on the platform gave Svitlana new knowledge and opened up new opportunities. Today, she plans to develop as a mentor and share her experience with colleagues, helping them master digital tools.

Svitlana is convinced: one of the key advantages of Diia.Education is the format, which combines learning and pleasure and makes complex topics accessible to everyone.
