Over 28.5 thousand surgeries performed through electronic waitlist for endoprosthetics

The electronic waitlist makes access to endoprosthetics clear and transparent for patients and enables tracking the entire process — from application registration to the delivery of a specific implant to the operating room. This helps avoid 'hidden lists' and bumping ahead in line.

In Ukraine, over 28.5 thousand endoprosthetics surgeries have already been performed, with data entered into the electronic system. Over 21.6 thousand interventions were performed free of charge for patients.

Of the 21,677 free surgeries:

  • 12,780 were elective surgeries via the electronic waitlist;
  • 8,897 were urgent surgeries when patients required emergency care due to severe injuries or fractures;
  • a further 6,831 surgeries were performed as a paid service by choice of the patients.

Currently, 35,467 patients are awaiting elective surgery in the electronic system. The largest numbers are awaiting knee joint replacement (19,720 people) and hip joint replacement (15,642 people).

How to join the electronic waitlist?

  • Select a healthcare facility from the list of those providing free endoprosthetics. Place of residence does not limit the choice of facility.
  • Contact the selected facility and submit an application for registration in the electronic waitlist.
  • Prepare documents: specialist's conclusion, identity document, tax ID (if available), document confirming the right to priority surgery (if available), and up-to-date contact details.
  • Await registration. After the facility employee enters the data, you will receive the 'In waitlist' status.

The list of healthcare facilities providing free endoprosthetics under the Medical Guarantee Programme is available on the Ministry of Health website.

The electronic waitlist for endoprosthetics was created by the Ministry of Health on the Diia.Engine Platform in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation with support from Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.
