About 5,400 vacancies for residents available across Ukraine this year

One of the key stages of preparation for the 2026 residency placement has been completed: all available vacancies for future resident doctors have been transferred from the Unified Vacancies Web Portal to the Electronic System for Rating-Based Distribution.

This includes 5,400 vacancies in healthcare facilities across Ukraine. These are the positions where future doctors will be able to undergo the practical part of their residency.

Over 3,100 participants are expected to take part in the 2026 placement, including more than 2,900 state-funded graduates, as well as contract-based students applying for state-funded positions. Thus, the number of available vacancies fully covers the needs of this year's placement.

For the second consecutive year, graduates are being placed into residency through an electronic system — a digital platform created to make this process transparent and understandable.

The largest number of vacancies for residents is available in the following specialities:

  • Internal Medicine (physician) — 788
  • General Practice - Family Medicine (general practitioner / family doctor) — 629
  • Anaesthesiology (anaesthesiologist) — 585
  • Surgery (surgeon) — 512
  • Neurology (neurologist) — 422

Regions with the highest number of available spots: Kyiv (523), Dnipropetrovsk (512), Kharkiv (451), Odesa (377), and Lviv (353) regions.

By 15 June, higher education institutions will upload graduates' academic performance data to the e-system.

Following this, future residents will register in the electronic rating-based placement system. They will be able to see all available vacancies in their personal electronic accounts.

The Electronic System for Rating-Based Distribution to medical residency, as well as the Unified Vacancies Web Portal, was created by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation on the Diia.Engine platform, supported by Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.

The administrator of the Unified Web Portal and the Electronic System for Rating-Based Distribution is the State Enterprise "Electronic Health".
